Frumos descends from Vulgar Latin formosus, meaning well-shaped or beautiful. The Latin word itself is built on forma, shape or form, though the deeper origin of forma is disputed among linguists and not securely traced further back. The same Latin root gave Spanish hermoso and Portuguese formoso, both meaning beautiful.
