Etymology
Mic descends from Latin mica, meaning a crumb or small bit of something. Over time the word shifted from a noun for a tiny piece to a general adjective meaning small. The same Latin root gave Italian mica, which survives as a word for crumb and also as a negation particle meaning not at all.
