Etymology
Căzut is the past participle of a cădea, to fall, which comes from Latin cadere, meaning to fall or sink. The -ut ending is a regular participle marker for Romanian verbs whose infinitive ends in -ea, such as tăcea giving tăcut and plăcea giving plăcut. The root itself has stayed close to its Latin source across thirteen centuries of sound change.
