Etymology

Presus is a Romanian formation built from the old intensifying prefix pre- and the adverb sus, meaning up. Sus itself descends from Latin sursum. The word survives almost only inside the fixed phrase mai presus (de), meaning above or beyond something, and it carries a formal, slightly archaic tone. It is rarely used on its own outside that phrase.
