Etymology
Romanian "colon" comes from Greek "kólon", a term for a segment of the intestine, passed on through French "côlon" and international medical Latin. The same Greek root also gave English "colon" for the punctuation mark, but Romanian kept only the anatomical sense and calls the punctuation mark "două puncte" instead. The word entered Romanian as a modern learned borrowing tied to medical vocabulary, not through everyday Latin inheritance.
