Etymology
Romanian "stomac" was borrowed from French "estomac" during the 19th-century modernization of the Romanian vocabulary, when many everyday and scientific terms were imported from French and Latin. French "estomac" in turn descends from Latin "stomachus", which came from Greek "stomachos", originally meaning throat or gullet before narrowing to stomach. The Greek word itself derives from "stoma", meaning mouth.
