Etymology
Continuare is the Romanian long infinitive of the verb a continua, and like many such infinitives it doubles as an abstract noun. It comes from Latin continuare, meaning to join without a break, itself built on continuus, continuous. That adjective traces back to continere, to hold together, from con- (together) plus tenere (to hold).
