Etymology
Demnitate entered Romanian from French dignité and Latin dignitas during the 19th-century push to re-Latinize the language. The Latin root dignus meant worthy or fitting. Romanian attached its native abstract-noun suffix -itate, the same ending seen in calitate and realitate.
