Etymology
Disciplină comes from Latin disciplina, meaning instruction or training. The Latin word derives from discipulus, a pupil, which itself traces back to discere, to learn. Romanian took the word directly from Latin and French during the nineteenth century, as part of a wave of relatinized vocabulary that replaced or supplemented older Slavic-influenced terms.
