Etymology
Romanian borrowed "distracție" from French "distraction" in the nineteenth century, during a wave of French-influenced modernization of the language. The French word traces to Latin "distractio," from "distrahere" (dis- "apart" plus trahere "to draw, pull"). Romanian narrowed the sense over time: where French and English keep the idea of a diverted attention, Romanian settled on "fun" or "entertainment" as the main meaning.
