Romanian borrowed "editor" from French "éditeur" and Latin "editor", a noun built on "edere", meaning to give out or bring forth. In Latin the word already covered anyone who produced or issued a work. Romanian kept the publishing sense, while English later narrowed its cognate to mean someone who revises text, which is why the two words look identical but diverge in meaning.
