Etymology
Dosar entered Romanian from French dossier during the nineteenth century, a period when Romanian absorbed many French terms for modern administration and law. French dossier itself derives from dos (back), because a bundle of papers was originally identified by a label on its spine or back. Romanian dos, meaning back or reverse side, comes straight from Latin dorsum, so dosar and dos both trace to the same Latin word, just by different routes.
