Etymology
Romanian "drum" comes from Old Church Slavonic "drumŭ", which itself was borrowed from Byzantine Greek "dromos" (running, course, road). The word entered Romanian through centuries of Slavic and Byzantine contact in the region south of the Danube. It displaced or coexisted with the inherited Latin term for road, and today "drum" is the ordinary word for both a physical road and a figurative path in life.
