Etymology
Dureros is built from the noun durere, meaning pain, plus the adjective-forming suffix -os. Durere comes from the Latin verb dolere, to feel pain or grieve, through the ordinary sound changes of spoken Latin into Romanian. The suffix -os descends from Latin -osus, the same ending seen in words like periculos, dangerous. Put together, dureros literally means full of pain.
