Etymology
Altcuiva is the dative-genitive case form of altcineva, a compound of alt (other, from Latin alter) and cineva (someone). Cineva itself comes from the interrogative-relative pronoun cine (who, from Latin quis) plus the old indefinite particle -va, a fossilized form of the verb a vrea (to want), so the base word literally meant something like whoever one wants. In the dative-genitive, cine shifts to its oblique form cui, giving cuiva, and the prefix alt- attaches to produce altcuiva.
