Etymology
Romanian borrowed "electronic" from French "électronique" in the twentieth century, as part of a wave of scientific and technical vocabulary. The root goes back to Greek "ēlektron", meaning amber, since static electricity was first studied by rubbing amber. The suffix "-ic" marks it as an adjective meaning "relating to".
