Etymology
Elimina came into Romanian in the nineteenth century as part of the deliberate re-Latinization of the language, borrowed from French éliminer and reinforced by the Latin source eliminare. The Latin verb combined the prefix ex- (out) with limen, liminis (threshold, doorway), so it originally meant to put someone out of the house. From that concrete image it broadened to the general sense of removing something from a set or a process.
