Etymology
Excepție comes from French exception, reinforced by the Latin exceptio, exceptionem. The Latin noun derives from the verb excipere, meaning to take out or single out, itself built from ex- (out) and capere (to take). Romanian took the word into its formal and legal vocabulary alongside many other French and Latin borrowings during the 19th-century modernization of the language.
