Etymology
Romanian "fel" comes from Hungarian "fél", which originally meant "half" or "side". In Hungarian this word also developed the extended sense "kind of", seen in the suffix "-féle". Centuries of contact between Romanian and Hungarian speakers, especially in Transylvania, brought the word into general Romanian usage with the meaning "kind, type, manner". Unlike most core Romanian vocabulary, it did not descend from Latin.
