Etymology
Fugă comes from Latin fuga, meaning flight or escape, itself tied to the verb fugere, "to flee." Romanian inherited the word directly from spoken Latin rather than borrowing it later. The same root gave English fugitive and refuge, and the musical term fugue, which Romanian also uses as fugă for that compositional form.
