Etymology

Fugar comes from the Romanian noun fugă (flight, escape), which descends from Latin fugere, to flee. The suffix -ar, common in Romanian for forming agent nouns and adjectives, was added to produce a word meaning one who flees or, by extension, something that passes quickly. The same Latin root gave Romanian its verb a fugi (to run away).
