Etymology
Grabă entered Romanian from Slavic, most likely from a verb root meaning to seize or grab, such as Old Church Slavonic and South Slavic grabiti. The original sense of snatching or seizing shifted in Romanian toward haste and hurry, an image of grabbing things quickly before rushing off. The same root gave Romanian the verb a grăbi, to hurry, and the adjective grăbit, hurried.
