Etymology
Ieftin is a Balkan loanword, not a Latin inheritance. Romanian dictionaries trace it to Bulgarian evtin and Serbian jeftin, both meaning cheap, which in turn go back to a Middle Greek word for cheap or abundant. It entered Romanian through centuries of contact with South Slavic speakers south of the Danube.
