Etymology

Romanian borrowed "invazie" from French "invasion" in the nineteenth century, part of a wave of French-derived vocabulary that modernized the language. French "invasion" itself descends from Latin "invasio", the noun form of "invadere", meaning to go into or attack. The Latin verb combines the prefix "in-" (into) with "vadere" (to go, to walk).
