Etymology

Romanian "pastor" is a later, learned borrowing that reintroduced the Latin word for a Christian minister, used mainly for Protestant and Evangelical clergy. It stands apart from the older, popularly inherited "păstor," which kept the literal sense of shepherd. Both trace back to Latin "pastor," from the verb "pascere," to feed or graze animals.
