Etymology

Invizibil entered Romanian in the 19th century as a learned borrowing from French invisible, itself from Latin invisibilis. Latin built the word from the negative prefix in- and visibilis, meaning capable of being seen. Visibilis in turn comes from videre, to see. Romanian took the word as part of a wave of French and Latin vocabulary adopted to modernize the language.
