Etymology
Lichid entered Romanian in the nineteenth century as part of a wave of French and Latin borrowings that modernized the language's scientific and abstract vocabulary. It comes from French liquide, itself from Latin liquidus, meaning fluid or clear. The Latin adjective derives from the verb liquere, to be liquid or flow.
