cumhowEtymology
Oarecum is built from oare, a Romanian particle used to mark a question or a note of doubt, and cum, meaning how, which comes from Latin quomodo. Joined together, the two pieces once carried a sense close to however it may be or in some way or other, which narrowed over time into the modern hedging sense of somewhat. The word is a Romanian-internal formation, not a compound inherited whole from Latin, and the origin of oare itself is still debated among linguists.
