Etymology
Părinție is formed inside Romanian from părinte (parent, forefather) plus the abstract-noun suffix -ie, the same suffix seen in moșie or boierie. Părinte itself comes from Latin parens, parentem, the participle of parere, to bring forth or give birth. The word survives mainly in old ecclesiastical Romanian, where it rendered Greek patria (lineage, family) in Bible translations such as Ephesians 3:15.
