Parcă formed from the fusion of pare, the third-person singular present of a părea (to seem), with că, the conjunction that. Over time Romanian speakers stopped hearing it as two words and it became one fixed adverb meaning it seems that or as if. A părea itself traces back to the Latin verb parere, to appear or be visible, the same source that gave Italian parere and Spanish parecer their words for to seem.
