compromiscompromiseEtymology
Promite comes from the Latin promittere, a verb built from the prefix pro- (forward) and mittere (to send). The word passed into Romanian through the normal evolution of Latin verbs in the region, keeping its core sense of putting a commitment forward. Latin promittere is also the ancestor of the English word promise, borrowed through Old French.
