Etymology

Procuror entered Romanian in the nineteenth century from French procureur, part of a wave of French legal and administrative vocabulary adopted during Romania's modernization. French procureur in turn descends from Latin procurator, meaning an agent or manager who acts on behalf of someone else. The Latin word is built from the prefix pro- (for, on behalf of) and curare (to take care of, to manage), plus the agent suffix -or.
