Etymology

Puțină is the feminine form of puțin, the ordinary Romanian word for "little." Most sources trace puțin to Latin putinus, a rare diminutive tied to putus, meaning small or delicate, rather than to the classical Latin word paucus that gives French peu or Italian poco. This makes Romanian unusual among Romance languages, since it did not keep the paucus root for its everyday word for "little." The feminine ending -ă was added to match feminine nouns.
