Etymology
Râde comes directly from Latin ridere, meaning to laugh. It was part of everyday spoken Latin in the region and passed into Romanian without interruption, unlike words that were borrowed later from French or Italian. The stressed short Latin i became â, a regular sound shift in Romanian, while the d between vowels stayed intact.
