Etymology

Romanian borrowed "rahat" from Ottoman Turkish "rahat," meaning comfort or ease, itself from Arabic "rāḥa" (rest, comfort). The word entered Romanian through the sweet called "rahat lokum," the comforting or restful morsel, which Romanians shortened to plain "rahat" for Turkish delight. Independently, colloquial Romanian repurposed the same word as coarse slang for excrement, a shift with no link to the original sense of comfort. The result is one word carrying an old, polite confectionery meaning and a newer, vulgar one side by side.
