Etymology

Revistă entered Romanian in the nineteenth century from French revue, with reinforcement from Italian rivista. Both ultimately trace to Latin revisere, to look at again, built from re- (again) and videre (to see). The sense shifted from a general act of reviewing to the periodical publication that reviews current events or a field.
