Etymology
Romanian "a rezolva" is a 19th-century learned borrowing, drawn from French "résoudre"/"résolu" and reinforced by Latin "resolvere", during the period when Romanian scholars replaced older Slavic and Ottoman vocabulary with Latin-based words. "Resolvere" itself breaks down as "re-" (back, again, thoroughly) plus "solvere" (to loosen, untie, release). So the underlying image is of untying a knot completely, which became the abstract sense of settling or solving something.
