Etymology

Scurge comes from Latin excurrere, built from ex- ("out") and currere ("to run"). Romanian regularly turned this Latin ex- prefix into an initial s-, the same pattern seen in spune (from exponere) and scutura (from excutere). So scurge literally meant "to run out", and that sense of liquid running away is still the core meaning today.
