Etymology
Grasă is the feminine form of gras, which comes from Latin crassus, meaning thick or fat. The word passed into Romanian along with the rest of the core Latin vocabulary that survived the Roman presence in Dacia. The Latin term itself has no securely established earlier root, so its history stops at Latin.
