Etymology
Romanian took "secție" from French "section" during the nineteenth-century push to modernize the language with Romance vocabulary. French "section" itself goes back to Latin "sectio, sectionem", a noun built from the verb "secare", meaning "to cut". Romanian reshaped the borrowing to fit its own noun pattern, giving it the same ending seen in other French loans like "stație" and "ecuație".
