Etymology

Soare comes from Latin sol, solis, the standard Latin word for the sun. Romanian, unlike most other Romance languages, kept the old Latin third-declension pattern that produced an -e ending in the nominative. The word has stayed close to its Latin root for two thousand years with little change in meaning.
