Etymology
Teamă is a noun built on the same root as the verb a (se) teme, "to fear," which continues Latin timēre. Romanian regularly turns a stressed e into the diphthong ea when a back vowel follows in the next syllable, which is why the verb stem teme- surfaces as tea- in the noun teamă. No further Proto-Indo-European root is reliably documented beyond this Latin verb, so none is given here.
