Etymology

Testez is the first-person singular present of a testa, a Romanian verb borrowed in the modern era from French tester. French tester in turn goes back to the Latin noun testum, an earthen pot once used to assay metals, the same source that gave English the noun test. Romanian took the verb wholesale as part of a wave of French-derived scientific and technical vocabulary in the 19th and 20th centuries.
