Etymology
Toamnă descends from Latin autumnus, the same root that gave Italian autunno, French automne, and Spanish otoño. In Romanian the word passed through heavy sound changes: unstressed vowels dropped, consonants shifted position, and the result was reshaped into toamnă. This makes it look unrelated to its Romance cousins at first glance, even though it shares their Latin source.
