Etymology
Ultimă is the feminine singular form of ultim, from Latin ultimus, the superlative of an old comparative meaning "farther, beyond." Latin built this superlative on the stem ulter-, seen also in ulterior. Romanian inherited the word directly from Latin, along with the rest of the Romance languages.
