Etymology

Romanian borrowed "amuzant" from French "amusant", the present participle of "amuser" (to amuse). This happened during the 19th-century push to modernize Romanian vocabulary with French and Latin-based words. "Amuzantă" is simply the regular feminine form, built by adding the Romanian ending "-ă" to the borrowed stem. The deeper origin of French "amuser" is disputed: it likely comes from Old French "muser" (to stare idly, to loiter), so no secure Indo-European root can be given.
