Etymology

Urgență comes from French urgence, which traces back to Latin urgentia, an abstract noun built on the present participle of urgere, meaning to press or push hard. Romanian took the word in during the nineteenth century, part of a large wave of French borrowings that reshaped its formal and administrative vocabulary. The Latin verb itself is of uncertain deeper origin, so no further root is given here.
