Etymology

Urgentă is the feminine singular form of urgent, borrowed into Romanian from French urgent during the 19th-century wave of Latin-Romance vocabulary that modernized the language. French urgent traces to Latin urgens, urgentis, the present participle of urgere, meaning to press or drive hard. Romanian simply added the standard feminine adjective ending -ă to the borrowed stem.
