Etymology
Urmărire is a noun built from the verb a urmări, which means to follow, chase, or track. That verb in turn comes from urmă, the Romanian word for a track, footprint, or trace. Romanian dictionaries link urmă to Latin orbita, meaning a wheel rut or track. The abstract noun urmărire was then formed by adding the deverbal suffix -re, the same pattern seen in citire (reading) or vorbire (speech).
