Etymology

Iubim is a form of a iubi, to love. Unlike most Romanian verbs, it does not descend from Latin. Romanian took the word from Old Slavic ljubiti, to love, during long contact with Slavic-speaking neighbors. That Slavic root goes back to an old Indo-European word for love and desire, so it shares deep ancestry with English love and German lieben.
